A quadratic equation in the variable x is of the form ax2+bx+c=0, where a,b,c are real numbers and a is not equal 0.

A quadratic equation can also be solved by the method of completing the square.

A quadratic equation ax2+bx+c=0 has

D = b2-4ac

1) D > 0 then two distinct real roots

2) D = 0 then two equal roots

3) D < 0 then no real roots
